State Road 87 Widening Project

State Road 87 is a main evacuation route in the event of natural disasters and provides access to the sprawling Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) in Northwest Florida. ABC Group provided public information support for a $48 million corridor-wide improvement project, which included widening State Road 87 from two to four travel lanes from the Eglin AFB boundary to south of County Road 184 in Milton, FL.

In addition to widening the roadway, the contractor constructed a new bridge over the Yellow River in Santa Rosa County which required the temporary closure of a popular boat ramp and parking lot.

ABC Group utilized a multifaceted communications strategy to advise stakeholders of the impacts. The team used grassroots outreach and traditional public relations efforts to advise stakeholders about related impacts and project updates.

Working with Eglin AFB, the largest military Air Force base in the world, was essential to the success of the project. ABC Group coordinated presentations for military personnel to communicate potential impacts to base operations.
